Duration of hands on training: 14-days

Basic course in Obstetrics and Gynecological Ultrasound

During this training program the trainee will gain:

Knowledge about the basics of ultrasound physics

  • Confidence in performing first trimester ultrasound, a targeted obstetric scan and identify common fetal anomalies
  • Knowledge in fetal biometry
  • Will be able to image normal uterus and adnexae and identify their pathology

Evaluation and certification:

Evaluation is done at the end of each course. Certificate of training will be issued by FOGSI for FOGSI members and for NON-FOGSI members KIVF will issue the certificate of training

Hands on Training in Andrology Lab Protocols

During this course program each participant receives one-on-one training to develop knowledge and skills in following areas:

  • Semen sample collection and delivery.
  • Semen analysis.
  • Manual and Computer assisted semen analysis (CASA).
  • Sperm morphology assessment (WHO and Tygerberg strict criteria).
  • Fructose detection in seminal plasma (qualitative)
  • Viability testing (Eosin & Nigrosin stain).
  • 24 hrs survival test
  • Hypo-osmotic swelling test.
  • Leukocyte detection (Endtz Test/Peroxidase staining).
  • Antisperm antibodies detection (Immunofluorescence test)*
  • Media preparation
  • Consent forms & documentation

Sperm preparation protocols:

  • Preparation of ejaculated sperm for ART:
    - Removal of Seminal plasma
    - Double density gradient technique
    - Swim-up method
  • Concentration method (for low count samples)
  • Method of retrieval of sperm from retrograde ejaculate*
  • Sperm retrieval and preparation of testicular biopsy specimens (rat or mouse specimens will be used)*

Cryopreservation protocols:

  • Human spermatozoa freezing:
    - By vapour freezing method
    - By Planar technique
  • Isolation and cryopreservation of sperm from testicular biopsy specimens*
  • Safety guidelines for andrology laboratory.

Hands on training in Assisted reproduction techniques (IVF/ICSI)

This course provides comprehensive hands on training in the laboratory practices of IVF and ICSI. The syllabus covers the following areas:

Hands-on Laboratory Training:

Culture techniques

  • Preparation of culture dishes for IVF/ IVF-ICSI cases
  • Embryo culture
  • Blastocyst culture
  • Preparation of media for Hyaluronidase
  • Preparation of media for vitrification of embryos and blastocysts

IVF Techniques

  • Pipette pulling and Pipetting techniques
  • Ovum pickup from follicular fluid
  • Oocyte handling
  • Denudation of oocytes for ICSI
  • Morphological assessment of oocytes
  • IVF procedure
  • ICSI: Intracytoplasmic sperm injection
  • Assessment of oocyte fertilization
  • Embryo handling
  • Embryo grading
  • Embryo transfer (loading of embryos into embryo transfer catheter)

Advanced IVF techniques:

  • Assisted hatching (laser)*
